I teach NAMI Peer-to-Peer, and one of the topics we cover is vision statements. I find vision statements are a powerful tool. They set your intentions and make you more likely to achieve your goals. One way I like to create a vision statement is visually through a vision board. They are a collage of images, words, and symbols cut and pasted on a board to reflect your goals and dreams.
These are the benefits I've found through making my own vision board:
1 - Goal Clarification and Motivation
Vision boards help me see clearly what I want to achieve. When I hang up my board next to my desk and look at it, it’s easier to stay motivated. It keeps me focused on my dreams and gives me a sense of direction, even on tough days.
2 - Stress Reduction and Relaxation
Making a vision board is a calming activity for me. It’s my time to express myself creatively, and it really helps relieve my stress. As I cut, paste, and arrange my board, it gives me a break from my busy mind.
3 - Increased Self-Awareness and Mindfulness
Vision boards enhance my self-awareness by making me think about my values, desires, and priorities. Reflecting on these aspects helps me understand myself better. The process of creating and viewing my vision board is a practice in mindfulness, keeping me present and focused.
I encourage you to try making a vision board! It’s a fun way to motivate yourself to reach your goals!
