If you're anything like me, clutter, an uncomfortable chair, and harsh lighting can wear you down over time. When my study environment isn’t set up to support my needs, it’s harder to stay focused, motivated, and positive. This agitation can turn even the simplest tasks into uphill battles, leaving me frustrated and drained.
Dani Donovan, in her "The Anti-Planner" for people with ADHD, offers a worksheet called Ideal Working Conditions that helps you visualize your perfect workspace. In this newsletter, I’ll share three elements to consider including in yours to boost focus and promote mental well-being.
Physical comfort and ergonomics: I ensure my study space is physically comfortable. From an ergonomic chair and desk setup to proper lighting, like natural light, I find my focus and mood are at their best when I’m not dealing with back pain or headaches.
Organization and decluttering: A tidy environment helps keep me calm. I incorporate storage solutions and designate specific areas for certain items to avoid frantically searching for study materials.
Personalization: My study space reflects my personality and interests, fostering comfort and ownership. If I didn’t have a brown thumb, I’d consider adding natural elements like plants, which are proven to reduce stress and anxiety while boosting mood and productivity.
By focusing on these three key elements, you can create a space that supports your needs. These small changes can help you reclaim focus, reduce stress, and make your study sessions something to look forward to.
